Black Nailpolish

I gotta scrape all this clay off my nails and get in a good scrubbin because tonight I'm headed downtown to shoot with the awesome Karen Hsiao after over a year of wanting to work together. She's got me a hood styled just for my modest self so we can finally do this. She's also a truly incredible painter. Find all her awesome work here.

I've spent the weekend sculpting out the new prosthetic and a possible (possible!) update to an existing one. (You've failed the moment you think you're good enough). I'd love to post pics here but I'm on the run getting a couple of orders out. More later.

Roman Dirge and Amber Fontaine

Medical Fundraising Made Simple

We all know and love Roman Dirge's work. And we all love morbid creepies but we DON'T love when people get hurt in real life.
Roman and his lovely and awesome girl Amber were walking through a well lit crosswalk last night when they were hit by a black Mercedes SUV. The driver fled the scene leaving Roman and Amber badly injured in the street.
You love his work. I love them both dearly. They are some of the hardest working people I know. Send some love and help offset the evil by donating. Any little bit helps.

Go check it out HERE

Thanks guys!

New Site and New News

I've been super busy this....past year. Wait...I haven't neglected this blog that badly. I mean, I've consistently posted updates about the book and the business. So lets not go overboard.

Monsters!

First things first.
The book has been out for five months now and its doing great! So far its in stores throughout Los Angeles including:

So that's been really exciting. The publisher, Fanboy Comics, and writer, Bryant Dillon, have been attending as many conventions and events as possible to promote and sell the book. They're doing great work. I am hoping to be able to join as soon as I get a job and can afford to do so. More on that in a moment.

Makeover

OpenWound FX has been going strong and sales has been consistent. Customers enjoyed a beautifully horrifying October with their OpenWound FX Gartered Legs and Slit Neck prosthetics. Seeing the photos pour in has been really fun. The recently released Severed Finger Necklaces have been a hit as well.
A new product is coming shortly and back stock is being built up to support another successful Halloween season.
Meanwhile, the OpenWound FX website has had a major upgrade. Check it out at openwoundfx.com

Here's a little preview:

Thanks in part to wix.com's amazing html5 website builder, the site is looking beautiful and finally I have the control to make it look exactly how I want it to.

ADdition.

Through OpenWound FX, I have discovered how much I love advertising and how many skills of mine would be put to great use in an ad agency. So, since graduating and subtracting school from my schedule, I have been working hard to get my foot in the door of the advertising industry. I have been working over 10 hours every day researching, learning, and developing my resume and more importantly, my portfolio.

(And of course, if you want me to join your team, email me at okmeaghan@gmail.com)

I know what you're thinking...but never fear. The addition of such an intense career is not only good for me, but good for my work. OpenWound FX has lived and grown in a loving home of spare time. Its amazing how much you can get done when you want to. It's a business that thrives in its small size and grows through the quality of its hand-made products. I've always had a full time job and between 2006-2010 I was in school as well. And from 2010 to 2012, I was also illustrating Identity Thief...on lunch breaks mostly.  OpenWound FX was built in whatever small amount of spare time was left over. Now that school has been subtracted, I am able to add a more meaningful career and get out of meaningless, deadend "day jobs" and in turn, add my unique experiences and background to an environment where they can be of use and where I can grow. Oh, plus there will be money which can be invested back into OWFX. I'm spread thin, but that's nothing new for me.

So here's to changes. And maybe another new chapter opening in my life. *Clink* motherfuckers.

Geek Native on my comic 'Identity Thief'

The latest review of my first book Identity Thief from Geek Native

"...I found myself intrigued by Meaghan O’Keefe’s art style. Her thick, loose line seems deceptively simple at first, but it evolves into something darker and more impressionistic as the story progresses and the tension ratchets up. Definite elements of late 80s/ early 90s Vertigo about her work."

Thanks guys!

You can get the book through my publisher (and the author) Fanboy Comics at fanboycomics.ecrater.com

Oops!

Valentine's Day came and went and I forgot to upload these to the blog here. They were on the site and social profiles though so I think that's what really matters. In the interest of records I'll post them now. And backdate the shit out of this post (sploits!)

3...2...1...Blastoff Comics!

There's a new comic shop in town, Blastoff Comics! In the heart of North Hollywood (are we finally becoming the art's district they keep saying we are?) on Lankershim just south of Magnolia. They've got a lot of cool stuff from what I'm seeing on their Facebook page. I'm going to check it out in person this week. You should too. They've got my book Identity Thief in stock. We're painting the town monster.

Identity Thief available now at Blastoff Comics!

And as always, for those of you not in town, the book is available at Fanboy Comics' online shop!

This post brought to you by my iMac.
Don't you judge me.

OpenWound FX product demo on Kill Baby Kill in glorious VIDEO

This week I visited the Kill Baby Kill show for a product demo and a wholesome chat with Jill Kill and Dee Simon. Brought to you by TradioV.

Jill Kill and I posing because otherwise we are way too animated for real BTS shots.

We were excited to see Steve Urkel himself (Jaleel White) come out of the studio before us so we took a break applying prosthetics to snap a shot of him with the lovely Jill Kill.

You got any cheeeeeese?

I'll be doing a full line of product demo videos this year so this was a great opportunity to show you guys how I apply these. This is the same method I use for the product photos and we never 'shop the products. OpenWound FX prosthetics are just so darn easy to use!

Golden Apple signing tomorrow the 5th

Tomorrow I'll be at Golden Apple Comics in Hollywood signing Identity Thief with the author and publishers and Rob (Nocuddletime.com) with his book Something Animal. Well be there from 10a-1p

It's been a stressful winter but I am certain I will have a few ducks in a row by the end of the month so that I can release new products for OpenWound FX. It's finding and aligning these ducks that consumes me and digs into my anxiety.

This week I have begun mapping out and preparing an exciting new book. ^__^ more on that soon enough but attached here are some chicken scratchings of things to come.
